Following the tragic boat accident in the state’s Warri South Local Government Area, five people were reported dead, six injured, and twenty still unaccounted for.
The Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has been named as one of the survivors of Tuesday’s boat accidents that killed five people in Delta State.
Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor’s chief press secretary, said in a statement on Wednesday that the speaker has not yet fully recovered from the shock.
After meeting with constituents on Friday afternoon, the speaker was heading back to Asaba via Warri, the statement continued.

The speaker is extremely saddened by the terrible boat accident that happened over the weekend along the Bennett Island River in Delta State’s Warri South-West local government area, in which he was a participant but amazingly survived.
“Unfortunately, five valuable individuals lost their lives in the incident.
After meeting with constituents on Friday afternoon, November 22, 2024, Mr. Speaker was travelling back to Asaba via Warri when the boat he was riding in nearly collided with another, killing five people and injuring numerous others.
His thoughts and prayers are with the families of the departed, and he asks God to give them the fortitude to endure these irreversible losses.
“Mr. Speaker remains stunned by the incident and can only imagine the anguish and sorrow that the victims’ families must be experiencing.”
He gives thanks to God that he and the other survivors of the accident were spared. He also values how quickly the rescue crew and the medical staff responded to help them.
In order to stop tragedies like this from happening again, Mr. Speaker has requested that the appropriate authorities look into the incident’s cause in great detail.
According to the statement, “Mr. Speaker expresses his condolences to the victims’ families once more and prays for their eternal rest.”
