Hollywood actress Anna Kendrick has opened up about the challenges she faced in recognizing that she was in an abusive relationship.

The 39-year-old revealed she was in the relationship for seven years but admitted it was “very difficult” to realize the truth about her former partner.

Speaking on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Kendrick shared that while she hasn’t disclosed her ex-partner’s identity, she initially believed she was the cause of their issues. Over time, she came to understand that the problem lay with him.

“It was like an overnight switch… It didn’t follow the traditional, slow build people talk about—it came out of absolutely nowhere,” she explained.

Kendrick described how her deep love and trust for her partner made her question herself: “I thought it had to be me. Like, if one of us is crazy, it must be me. It was very, very difficult to finally say, ‘No, this is him. This is his stuff.’”

She added, “I turned my life upside down trying to fix whatever was wrong with me. I was reading all these articles and thinking, ‘Some of this fits, but not completely.’”

Kendrick’s candid account sheds light on the complexities of emotional abuse and the difficulty of identifying it, even in long-term relationships.
