The United States Embassy in Nigeria has updated its immigration visa procedures for applicants, effective January 1, 2025.
Under the revised process, applicants scheduled for interviews will now need to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during their visa application journey. This directive was shared on the embassy’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.
The announcement stated:
“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process. This new procedure is aimed at helping applicants prepare for their visa interviews and minimizing delays in processing immigrant visas.”
Details provided on the embassy’s website outline the two required visits:
- First Visit – In-Person Document Review: During this visit, applicants will meet with a consular staff member to review their documents. This ensures that all necessary materials are ready for the visa interview. Missing documents can be retrieved before the interview to avoid delays in processing.
- Second Visit – Visa Interview: The second visit involves a formal interview with a Consular Officer. The National Visa Center (NVC) will schedule the date for this interview.
Applicants who fail to complete the In-Person Document Review before their visa interview will need to reschedule their appointments.
This update was published on the embassy’s official website and verified social media platforms. It aims to streamline the visa application process and improve efficiency for prospective immigrants.
