Real Madrid new signee Kylian Mbappe is now a majority shareholder of Ligue 2 side, club Caen. Mbappe bought the club’s major shares as his company, Interconnected Ventures, announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The France skipper has just acquired 80 percent of the club’s shares through a coalition capital which is an investment firm under interconnected ventures, taking over Oaktree who were the former majority shareholder
“This transaction marks a significant step in the club’s strategic development and reinforces its natural ambition to remain one of the most successful clubs in French football,” the club revealed.
“This acquisition will provide Caen with additional strategic resources to strengthen its sporting policy, modernise its infrastructure and develop innovative projects.”
Report has it that Mbappe’s close friend Ziad Hammoud, will oversee chairmanship of the club.
“We are determined to create an environment where young talent can flourish and where the club can defend its identity with strength and ambition,” Hammoud stressed in the press release.”
Mbappe who is also a World Cup winner, becomes one of the youngest club owners of a professional football club.
The striker almost joined the club when he was a teenager before finally signing for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Although no figure has been officially released for the amount paid on the 111 years old club but French media reported a fee about 15-20 million euros ($16–21.6 million).
Caen reached the Cup final in 2005 and also finished fifth on the league table, in the top flight in 1992. They have also played in France’s second division since 2019.
