Nigerian music star Tekno collapsed on stage during a concert in South Africa. As of now, the singer’s current condition remains unknown.

Tekno has been open about his health struggles, particularly his battle with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). In a 2019 interview with radio host Daddy Freeze, he revealed how the condition affected his vocal cords, making it difficult for him to talk and sing. This led to Tekno undergoing a surgical procedure called Esophagogastric dissociation. He also shared the challenges he faced, including financial difficulties.

Reflecting on that period, Tekno said, “By this time, I had seen about four doctors. I was getting tired and praying. Some people speculated it was Ubi because my contract was expiring in December, suggesting he didn’t want me to sing anymore… Someone even said it was a girl and offered me Babalawo. At that point, I was already losing my mind—it was insane.

“I took all the medications they prescribed, including reflux medication that I had to take for two or three months to reduce the acid in my stomach. The acid had been coming up to my throat and irritating my vocal cords.

“I eventually got tired, went to London for a while, and then returned to Nigeria. By that time, I had spent four months without working, recording, or performing, just spending money from hospital to hospital, doctor to doctor. Somebody even suggested I should buy a goat and a cutlass (laughs).”
