President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja early on Friday morning, August 23, 2024, following a brief official visit to France. He landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 2:25 a.m.
Later today, President Tinubu will preside over the swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at the State House Council Chambers. This event will formally appoint Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun as the new CJN, succeeding the recently retired Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
President Tinubu’s trip to France began on Monday and was focused on official matters before his return to Nigeria.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended Justice Kekere-Ekun for the position during its 106th meeting on August 15.
Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the swearing-in ceremony will proceed as planned today. “President Tinubu will swear in Justice Ariwoola’s successor at the State House Council Chambers on August 23, 2024,” Ngelale stated.
