Jennifer Lopez has respectfully cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for filing for divorce from actor Ben Affleck, two years after their widely publicized wedding.
The “Jenny From the Block” singer, 55, submitted the divorce papers on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding ceremony, listing their separation date as April 26.
As per the court documents acquired by Page Six, Ms. Lopez has formally requested that neither she nor Mr. Affleck, aged 52, be granted spousal support. Furthermore, the documents indicate that Ms. Lopez has petitioned the court to restore her legal name from Jennifer Lynn Affleck to Jennifer Lynn Lopez, thereby signifying the definitive conclusion of their marital union.
Lopez and Affleck’s rekindled romance made headlines when they eloped in July 2022, with Lopez taking Affleck’s surname—a move she once described as “romantic” and “traditional.” Despite her public pride in becoming Mrs. Affleck, Lopez is now seeking to return to her maiden name, reflecting the couple’s split.
In an interview with Vogue in November 2022, Lopez expressed her satisfaction with the name change, explaining that while people would continue to call her Jennifer Lopez, she cherished the tradition of taking her husband’s last name. However, she also acknowledged that having Affleck change his last name to Lopez was never considered, as she felt it lacked the romance she associated with the gesture.
Lopez’s divorce filing has raised speculation about the division of assets as they reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement. This could lead to a legal battle over their substantial assets, including their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion, recently listed for sale.
As one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples, Lopez and Affleck’s split marks the end of a relationship that captured public attention both in the early 2000s and again in their recent reunion.
