Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has donated N1.5 billion to aid victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, Borno State. Dangote announced the donation following a visit to the affected areas, including the Lagos Street Bridge in Maiduguri. The donation includes N1 billion allocated through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate with the Borno State Government and an additional N500 million from the Dangote Aliko Foundation.

In response to the floods, which have severely impacted Maiduguri and surrounding regions, the Federal Government has announced plans to upgrade the Alau Dam to prevent future overflows. The dam, with a capacity of 112 million cubic meters, was overwhelmed by the recent floods.

Joseph Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, and Bello Goronyo, Minister of State for Water Resources, assessed the flood damage in Maiduguri using a military vehicle.
