The Lagos State Government will implement an e-call up system to manage truck movements in the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor starting September 23, 2024. This initiative is aimed at preventing congestion and improving logistics, particularly with the expected increase in truck traffic due to the full operations of the Dangote Refinery.
Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, explained that the system will coordinate truck movements to and from the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industries in the area. He also mentioned plans for expanding the road network and introducing inter-modal transport systems to streamline vehicular traffic.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, stressed the importance of compliance, noting that an interim arrangement is in place to clear illegal tankers from congested zones. The e-call up system will regulate truck entries and exits, preventing chaotic traffic caused by indiscriminate parking and uncoordinated truck movements.
The Lekki-Epe corridor, a critical economic hub hosting industries like the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Refinery, and Lekki Deep Sea Port, relies on efficient transportation to support the state’s economy. The e-call up system is seen as a vital step toward sustainable development in the area.
