The incident occurred when Daule, a lion handler from Bauchi State, failed to secure the lion’s enclosure before approaching to feed it. The lion escaped and attacked the handler, causing fatal injuries to his neck.

The police spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that a wild animal attack occurred on September 28th. The Chief Security Officer of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library reported that a 35-year-old lion handler, Babaji Daule, was tragically killed. Investigations revealed that Daule failed to secure the lion’s enclosure before approaching to feed it, leading to the fatal attack.
The park’s management also released a statement regarding the incident, stating that some guests arrived after the park’s closing time and requested a demonstration of the lion’s feeding routine. The zookeeper agreed, feeling comfortable with the animal, and left the safety gate open. The lion attacked and killed the zookeeper on the spot. To prevent further harm, the lion was euthanized. The park’s management emphasized that this activity was not part of their standard feeding routine and initiated an investigation into the incident. The matter has been reported to the police for further investigation.
