The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced its intention to impose sanctions on Starlink due to a recent increase in its tariff.

Starlink has announced an adjustment to its pricing structure. The monthly subscription fee has been revised from N38,000 to N75,000. Additionally, new users will incur a higher cost for the equipment kit. The previous price of N440,000 has been updated to N590,000.

NCC To Sanction Starlink Amid Price Increase

It mentioned that the price increase will impact both new and current customers.

However, the NCC Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, respectfully stated that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) did not approve Starlink’s unilateral decision to increase its subscription packages.

The Commission will, therefore, take appropriate enforcement measures against any action by a licensee that has the potential to undermine the regulatory stability of the telecommunications industry, as stated in the Tuesday statement.

The National Communications Commission (NCC) has expressed concerns that Starlink may have acted prematurely by announcing price changes without proper consultation.

“We were taken aback by the company’s premature announcement of price changes, given that the Commission’s approval for the requested price adjustment is still pending,” the NCC stated.

“It appears that the company’s actions may constitute a breach of Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, as well as Starlink’s License Conditions concerning tariffs.”
