94 people were instantly killed in a massive inferno that broke out as the residents were gathering petrol from the overturned tanker at the time of the explosion.

In Jigawa State’s Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area, a fuel tanker exploded. In a tragic event that happened on Wednesday morning, over 90 people lost their lives and 50 more were hospitalised.

The explosion happened at 12:30 AM when the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle while it was travelling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, close to Khadija University in Majiya.Residents rushed to gather spilt petrol after the tanker overturned, causing the disaster, according to DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer of Jigawa State Command.Despite being able to obtain graphic images of the severely burned victims, Channels Television was unable to distribute them.

DSP Adam clarified, “The explosion occurred when the residents were scooping fuel from the overturned tanker, sparking a massive inferno that killed 94 people on the spot.””An additional fifty people were seriously hurt in the incident; they were taken to Ringim and Hadejia General Hospitals for treatment.”

DSP Adam revealed that the community is in mourning and that the authorities began a mass burial for the victims on Wednesday morning.He referred to the incident as a “horrific tragedy,” highlighting the necessity for the general public to be aware of the dangers involved in removing fuel from accident scenes.AT Abdullahi, Jigawa State’s Commissioner of Police, sent his condolences to the surviving family members as well as the state’s entire populace.He remarked, “This is a heartbreaking moment for all of us.” “We feel the same anguish and sadness as the impacted families. Our prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved.

The commissioner asked people to report petrol explosions to the appropriate authorities and advocated for greater public awareness of the risks associated with them.”In order to prevent fatalities, we kindly request that the public alert security services or other pertinent parties when such incidents take place. Our top priority needs to be safety,” he said.Witnesses reported seeing people fighting to save the injured amid the flames in a scene that was chaotic and depressing.Sani Umar, a local who barely avoided the fire, recalled, “It was terrifying.” People were screaming for help and running in all directions. Many people were unable to escape the fire due to its rapid spread.
