In the second quarter of 2024, TikTok claimed to have removed over 2.1 million videos from Nigeria due to violations of its community guidelines.

Tiktok stated that the action is a part of the company’s ongoing efforts to improve content moderation and create a safer platform for users in the Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, which was shared on Tuesday.”Key findings reveal that 90.7% of these videos were taken down within 24 hours, and 99.1% of these videos were proactively removed before users reported them. These numbers demonstrate TikTok’s dedication to preventing harmful content and guaranteeing a safer platform for its Nigerian users, the report stated.Less than 1% of all uploads in Nigeria during the reporting period were the impacted videos.

According to TikTok, it removed over 178 million videos globally in June 2024, with automated systems helping to remove 144 million of those videos.The short-form mobile video platform TikTok claimed to be “more efficient than ever at addressing harmful content before users encounter it,” with a proactive detection rate of 98.2% globally.It did, however, guarantee that it would keep spending money on technologies meant to enhance content moderation and identify possible threats.

Additionally, it reaffirmed its commitment to openness and platform security for its global user base, which includes a diverse population in Nigeria.
