“I will do everything to show respect to this role and to this country and the target for the next 18 months is (the World Cup), nothing else and the biggest one in football,” Tuchel added.

In an attempt to break the Three Lions’ streak of not winning a major tournament since 1966, Thomas Tuchel said the offer to take over as manager of England arrived at the ideal moment.

The former Chelsea manager was named on Wednesday as Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement. Southgate guided England to consecutive European Championship final appearances. After leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the previous season, Tuchel has been out of work. He will start his role in January and be paid for eighteen months, or until the end of the 2026 World Cup.”The proposal arrived at the perfect moment,” Tuchel remarked upon his announcement during a press conference held at Wembley.“Now I have to live up to it of course. I know that there are some trophies missing in the federation and, of course, I want to help to make it happen.”

In addition to winning significant honours during his illustrious coaching career at Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, Tuchel guided Chelsea to Champions League victory in 2021.Nonetheless, there has been some opposition to the England men’s national team’s selection of a third foreign manager.Tuchel made fun of his German passport and said he was “sorry,” but he hopes his performance will disprove those who doubted him.Tuchel continued, “Hopefully I can show them, convince them, and demonstrate to them that I am proud to be the English manager.”

“I will do everything in my power to honour this position and this nation, and the World Cup is my only goal for the next eighteen months—it is the biggest football tournament.”With a wealth of talent among its players, England will be one of the favourites to win the USA, Canada, and Mexico World Cup in 2026.Mark Bullingham, the CEO of the Football Association, stated that they had spoken with ten applicants, including English ones, but that Tuchel offered the best chance of winning a major championship that is difficult to come by.”Thomas was extremely exceptional; he presented a very clear picture of the position and how he would collaborate with our players to bring out the best in them and to give us the best opportunity to win the World Cup,” Bullingham expressed.
