President Bola Tinubu has informed Nigerian motorists that they can either purchase petrol at N1,000 per litre or opt for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200. He made this statement during a meeting with NIPCO executives on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja, where he commended the company’s contributions to the nation’s energy transition, particularly its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

President Tinubu acknowledged NIPCO’s pivotal role in promoting CNG adoption as an alternative fuel and noted that such investments align with his administration’s strategy for energy security and economic diversification. He emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing cleaner, more affordable energy solutions for Nigerians.

Tinubu also praised NIPCO’s efforts in raising awareness about the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which made affordable conversion kits available to the public even before the official launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative. He underscored the initiative’s importance in reducing the country’s dependence on petrol and lowering fuel costs for consumers.

“CNG, being a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel, not only reduces the carbon footprint but also offers significant savings for consumers,” Tinubu said. “Motorists can either buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or the equivalent in gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200.”

The President further noted that incentives have been introduced to help commercial motorists convert from petrol to gas at no cost. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for private sector investment and expanding Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure to boost energy efficiency and economic growth.

NIPCO’s Director, Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, thanked the President for his continued support of the CNG sector. He affirmed NIPCO’s commitment to partnering with the government to ensure Nigeria’s energy transition remains on track, and assured that the company is prepared to invest in infrastructure to make CNG more accessible across the country. Kasangra also highlighted NIPCO’s long-standing presence in Nigeria, stating the company’s dedication to the nation’s long-term growth.
