Nigerian Prostitution Ring Dismantled By Police In Cyprus
CyrusMail reported on Wednesday that police are currently dismantling a Nigerian prostitution ring in Limassol.
In cooperation with the anti-trafficking unit, three women have been taken into custody.Last year, a woman who initially claimed to have been a victim of theft filed a complaint, bringing the case to the attention of the police. However, suspicions that she was a victim of sex trafficking surfaced during interrogation.Christos Andreou, a police spokesperson, has confirmed the report. He added that after more research, the woman had been moved to a safe house.
Andreou clarified that the victim’s lack of knowledge about the identities of her abusers contributed to the length of the investigation.A 44-year-old woman suspected of being involved in the trafficking ring was arrested on October 9 as a result of coordinated police efforts, and she was arrested again on October 18. A 33-year-old third woman was also arrested on Tuesday. There are still two men wanted in relation to the case.Police have gathered a lot of evidence, and they plan to take the case to court in the next few days, Andreou added.
