It has been a memorable evening, and Donald Trump is poised to return to the White House after achieving a victory against Kamala Harris.

He has now secured the necessary electoral college votes to successfully win his second term as president after a four-year hiatus.

Harris herself has yet to emerge in public after a devastating loss, but has called her opponent to congratulate him

Although Harris has not yet made a public appearance since her unfortunate defeat, she has graciously reached out to her opponent to offer her congratulations.

“When we lose, we accept the results”, Harris says

Kamala Harris has said the American people must accept the outcome of this election, and that there will be a “peaceful transition of power” – a stark difference to the chaos which ensued after Trump refused to conceed his lost to Joe Biden in 2020.

“When we lose an election we accept the results”, Harris said, saying she had congratulated Trump on becoming President Elect.

It may have been a thinly veiled dig at Trump’s behaviour four years ago.

However, Harris said that there were things she was not willing to conceed.

“I do not conceed the fight that fuelled this campaign. The fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness and the dignity of all people,” she added.

Harris said her “heart is full” and “full of gratitude”, but acknowledged the result was “not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for.”

She goes on to thank her family, her campaign staff, and said was was “proud” of the campaign they ran, and how it was done.

Harris added they were united by their “love of country”, and they “did it with the knowledge we have more in common than what seperates us”.
