A Bandit Attack On Kebbi Community Claimed 15 Lives.

The Deputy Governor, the Commissioner of Police, and the Emir attended the funeral where the 15 victims were laid to rest.

In what can be considered the most recent tragic event to hit the state, 15 residents of the Mera community in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State were killed in a bandit attack.

Deputy Governor Abubakar Umar Tafida confirmed the attack and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.Tafida assured residents during his visit that the state government is dedicated to apprehending the offenders and stopping future assaults.

He emphasised that in order to protect citizens’ safety and wellbeing, the government would keep working closely with security agencies.In addition to expressing his grief over the vicious attack, Alhaji Samaila Mera, the Emir of Argungu, called on the populace to remain united and resilient.The Deputy Governor, the Commissioner of Police, and the Emir attended the funeral where the 15 victims were laid to rest.

The incident follows recent insecurity-related attacks that have hit the nation, particularly the North.In an encounter with armed bandits terrorising the state’s Jibia Local Government Area on Friday, two security personnel—one of whom was a member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps—and one vigilante member were said to have died.

Five persons also sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.According to reports, the thugs attacked the quarters of Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke in Jibia Township, Jibia LGA, Katsina State, at approximately 2115 hours (9:15 p.m.).

The injured were taken right away to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, according to a statement released Friday by ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, which confirmed the incident.He claimed that the Command, working with the military, state community watch corps members, and vigilantes, had successfully thwarted the attacks. The joint security team, under the leadership of DPO Jibia, repelled the attackers with a fierce gunfight that lasted more than an hour.

The operation successfully rescued sixteen (16) banditti-trapped victims, and the bandits were ultimately forced to retreat with unknown casualties due to the joint security team’s superior firepower and tactical advantage. “Further developments will be communicated in due course, please.”
