In the Olunloyo neighbourhood of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, ten bodies have been found among the wreckage of a collapsed storey building at Jegede.
The collapse that occurred in the capital of Oyo State on Thursday also resulted in some confirmed injuries.In a statement, Oyo State Fire Service General Manager Yemi Akinyinka said the service received a distress call at around two in the morning from locals reporting that a building had collapsed, trapping many people beneath the debris.
“I would like to notify you that at approximately two in the morning, the Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at Jegede, Olunloyo area, Ibadan. Ten people were rescued alive from the wreckage of the building, and seven others were recovered from the debris.” The rescue effort is still ongoing.
In a statement, the police also verified the development. The police stated that “enough security has been put in place in the area to prevent criminals from taking over the scene of the incident and to protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction.””At this time, investigations are being conducted to determine the potential causes of the incident.”
