AFCON: Eguavoen Invites 23 For Benin, Rwanda Games, Osimhen Returns

On October 19, after recovering from an injury, Osimhen scored in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor on the road in the Turkish Super Lig.

In preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Rwanda and the Benin Republic, 23 players have been invited by Augustine Eguavoen, the Super Eagles’ interim coach.

One of the players on the roster is Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray’s star striker, who missed the team’s most recent match against Libya because of an injury.On October 19, after recovering from an injury, he scored in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor on the road in the Turkish Super Lig.On October 28, Osimhen also scored the game-winning goal in Galatasaray’s derby against Besiktas.

Umar Sadiq of Real Sociedad is also making a comeback to the Super Eagles squad after a lengthy absence.The final rounds of qualifying for the AFCON in Morocco next year will include matches against Rwanda and Benin.The match against Rwanda on matchday six will be held at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on November 18, while the match against Benin Republic on matchday five will begin at 8 p.m. Nigeria time on November 14 at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny.After CAF gave Nigeria three goals and three points for the postponed match against Lybia, Nigeria leads Group D of the qualifiers with ten points with two games left.

After being stranded in a remote airport in Libya for half a day prior to the game, the Eagles declined to participate.As they got ready for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights, the players and officials were left stranded at an airport in Libya for hours without food or internet access.The team was eventually given the all-clear to depart Libya after diplomatic efforts and social media appeals.
