According to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ceased working on projects for public universities in Nigeria, even though funds for intervention have been allocated for tertiary institutions.

L-R: Lamido Sanusi, Olayemi Cardoso, and Emmanuel Emefiele

According to the union, the apex bank ceased working on any projects in public universities in 2014 following the tenure of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who is currently the emir of Kano. June 2009–February 2014 saw Sanusi serve as CBN governor.

This shocking revelation was made by ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke on the Sunday edition of Channels Television’s sociopolitical program Inside Sources with Laolu Akande.

According to Osodeke, a lot of businesses nowadays are considered cash cows since they have some money set aside for community development. CBN, NNPC, and other entities. Before Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, took office and made the decision to allocate the funds appropriately, we were unaware that there was money available for the university during the lengthy period we have had CBN governors.Due to the availability of funding, Sanusi regime’s projects during his tenure as CBN governor are still ongoing at every federal university in the country.

The largest building in my university is called CBN. Visit the University of Abuja, CBN; visit Jos; during the four years he was there before he was fired, have you seen any work done by CBN in the university since another one took over? None at all.”

According to ASUU Osodeke, there would not be an infrastructure shortfall in any public university in Nigeria if Godwin Emefiele and Olayemi Cardoso adopted Sanusi’s strategies.

We would not be discussing university projects if what Sanusi did as CBN governor was followed by other CBN governors; once that governor came, that was it.”There is a new person there, and no one is bringing up that fund anymore; it is called Community Social Responsibility, and it exists.”Therefore, if the governor of CBN is watching, let me ask you this: how did Emir Sanusi raise the funds necessary to implement projects in all of the nation’s federal and numerous state universities in just four years? Why was it impossible for Emefiele to place one anywhere? Why has the current one not given that any consideration? How come all those who were there have not to do anything?“He (Cardoso) is a year in office, has he done anything? Have you seen any project in any university?” he queried.
