The Super Eagles faced a number of difficulties during their trip to Libya for their important qualifier.

A comprehensive investigation is still underway in the wake of the recent controversy surrounding Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya, according to Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football.

CAF Chief Says Investigation Into Nigeria-Libya Incident Continues

According to Motsepe, the continental organisation will not put up with unfair treatment or a lack of sportsmanship in African football.Motsepe addressed the challenging circumstances the Nigerian national team encountered during their trip to Libya, which sparked worries about player safety and equitable treatment, at a press conference held Tuesday following the 46th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Recall that the Super Eagles had travelled to Libya for their important qualifier, where they faced a number of difficulties, such as flight redirection, an airport delay of more than eighteen hours, and logistical issues that hindered the team’s preparation.Motsepe stated that the incident is being investigated but refrained from making any direct remarks regarding the Nigeria-Libya situation.”I will not comment on that because there is a proper investigation,” he said, referring to the issue that arose with the Nigerian national team in Libya. However, since this has been going on for a while, I want to emphasise a principle that we will not tolerate.

“Let me stress, your national team, put the Nigeria and Libya situation out of your mind. That process has been thoroughly examined, and the proper action will be taken.”He also emphasised how these problems have been recurrent in African football, where visiting teams are occasionally given subpar treatment.”There are far too many tales of national teams or football teams travelling to a nation and spending hours at the airport being questioned about documents that are not there,” Motsepe said. The CAF President emphasised in his remarks the value of treating visiting teams with dignity and respect, citing the idea of fair competition.
