In an effort to contribute to the fight against air pollution and promote environmental sustainability, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Physics and electronics Students took it upon themselves to convert a petrol motorbike (Okada) to an electric bike as their final year project.

The project was accomplished by a dedicated team consisting of Abdulazeez Uthman Alabi, Adejoro Glory Isaac, Odetokun Opeyemi Oluwatosin, Adejunmobi David Ademola, and Aladesanmi Emmanuel, under the esteemed supervision of Dr. Mrs. T.Y Ojebisi. Their invaluable guidance was pivotal in transforming the petrol-powered bike into an electric rechargeable bike.

With a deep commitment to enhancing the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of transportation, we acknowledge the significant contribution of petrol-powered bikes to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, despite their popularity and efficiency. In light of rising fuel costs and growing environmental concerns, the exploration of alternative solutions, such as electric vehicles, has become an imperative necessity.

For the AAUA physics and electronics students, converting a bike to electric was an opportunity to demonstrate that practical and cost-effective solutions to environmental challenges can be achieved, even with limited resources.

They aimed to create a vehicle that runs on cleaner energy, lowers operational costs, and supports the global shift towards electric mobility.

This project is not just an academic exercise. It demonstrates the innovative spirit of Nigerian youth. They are tackling real-world problems and creating solutions that support sustainable development goals.

Their project has not only demonstrated the technical expertise of AAUA students but also highlighted the potential for sustainable and clean energy. This conversion is not merely an impressive achievement; it represents a significant step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on petrol and aligns with global efforts to transition to green energy.

The AAUA students’ electric bike conversion represents a noteworthy advancement in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable energy solutions. Their endeavor exemplifies the potential of indigenous innovation and serves as an inspiring illustration of what can be accomplished through dedication and vision.
