FREEE Recycle, a tyre waste recycling and rubber manufacturing company, has highlighted the untapped potential in Nigeria’s waste recycling sector. The company announced its goal to recycle two million tyres annually, noting that Nigeria imported about N108 billion worth of waste tyres in 2023. In celebration of World Cleanup Day 2024, FREEE Recycle reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through innovative recycling solutions and contributions to the circular economy.
At a media briefing in Lagos, Ifedolapo Runsewe, Managing Director of FREEE Recycle, emphasized the company’s mission to address environmental hazards caused by waste tyres. She said: “We saw an opportunity to transform this challenge into a solution. As a pioneer in tyre waste management, our operations align with 12 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
Since its 2020 pilot launch, FREEE Recycle has processed over 350,000 tyres, with plans to scale up to two million annually. Dumebi Okeke, Team Lead for Sustainability & Innovation, added that tyre recycling in the U.S. is a $12 billion industry, underscoring the vast potential for similar growth in Nigeria.
