The Europa League match between Manchester United and Porto ended in an exciting 3-3 draw thanks to a stoppage-time header by super sub Harry Maguire that spared the blushes and possibly the job of Erik ten Hag.

With an outstanding start in Portugal, the Red Devils dispelled doubts about their players and their manager, who is under fire, four days after their 3-0 home loss to Tottenham.

Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund had put United ahead, but Pepe’s goal and Samu Omorodion’s outstanding brace caused Ten Hag’s team to stumble and lose composure.

When Ten Hag faltered, captain Bruno Fernandes was substituted for the second time in as many games, but in stoppage time, Maguire headed home a Christian Eriksen corner to earn a point.

After saving him in what appeared to be the hardest assignment in the redesigned Europa League, the Dutchman will be appreciative of the towering centre-back.
