Heavy Traffic on Ogbomosho-Oyo Expressway Causes Major Delays

Motorists and commuters faced significant delays on the Ogbomosho-Oyo expressway today due to heavy traffic congestion. The gridlock, which began early in the morning, has been attributed to multiple factors, including a truck which tumbles in front of Seminary and ongoing road construction in several sections of the expressway.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident, which occurred around 7:00 a.m., involved a collision between a fuel tanker and a goods truck, leading to a minor fuel spill and blocking both lanes. Emergency response teams and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were quickly deployed to the scene to manage the situation, clear the road, and ensure the safety of commuters. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported, but two individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In addition to the accident, ongoing roadwork aimed at expanding and repairing parts of the expressway has contributed to the congestion. The construction has reduced the road to a single lane in some areas, causing a bottleneck and further slowing down traffic. Commuters have been advised to exercise patience and, if possible, seek alternative routes to avoid the affected areas.

The FRSC has urged motorists to drive carefully and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further incidents. Authorities are also working to expedite the removal of the damaged vehicles and complete the roadwork as soon as possible to alleviate the traffic situation.

Traffic on the Ogbomosho-Oyo expressway is expected to remain heavy throughout the day, with normal flow anticipated to resume by late evening. Commuters are advised to stay updated on traffic reports and plan their journeys accordingly.
