Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an immediate investigation and recovery of 612 vehicles flagged as stolen on the Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform. Additionally, over 1,610 vehicles with conflicting registration details are to be investigated.
The e-CMR, launched in July 2024, is a real-time online repository of motor vehicle data designed to combat vehicle-related crimes such as terrorism, banditry, and robbery. The directive follows a recent success where one stolen vehicle was recovered in Ilorin after being flagged on the platform, and a vehicle theft syndicate member was arrested.
The Force Headquarters’ statement detailed how the stolen vehicle, originally taken from Abuja, was re-registered twice to conceal its status. The police promised ongoing efforts with other agencies to secure citizens’ vehicular assets across the country.
