Job Summary
The intern will support Amnesty International’s mission by monitoring human rights developments, contributing to campaigns and advocacy activities, and conducting research in key areas. These areas include arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, extrajudicial killings, women’s rights, media freedom, civic space, freedom of expression, forced evictions, torture, discrimination, and access to justice.

- Key Relationships: Amnesty International Nigeria staff, including researchers, campaigners, and the Finance and Office Manager; West and Central Africa Regional Office (WARO); and the International Secretariat (IS).
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct research and investigations into human rights issues in Nigeria.
- Monitor developments in human rights, including rulings by national, regional, and international bodies.
- Assist in organizing and implementing campaigns, human rights education initiatives, and growth activities by gathering relevant data, preparing briefings, and maintaining systematic records for easy access.
- Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, and seminars, including compiling lists and other planning tasks.
- Process inquiries, petitions, letters, and administrative duties.
- Draft correspondence, reports, blog posts, and articles for internal and external audiences.
- Document minutes of weekly team meetings and submit them for final review.
- Contribute to the team’s response during emergencies or unforeseen events.

Skills, Attributes, and Experience
- Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or HND in a relevant field. Degrees in social sciences, international relations, or law are advantageous. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Interest: Demonstrated passion for human rights through prior experience, membership in advocacy organizations, or similar activities.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and a collaborative, approachable attitude.
- Language: Proficient in English; knowledge of local or additional foreign languages is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
- Familiarity with multimedia tools such as Canva is beneficial.
- Other Abilities:
- Analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Strong multitasking abilities to manage tasks with conflicting deadlines.
- A flexible work approach and willingness to handle diverse responsibilities.
