Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has won a parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections, representing the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Dumelo, running for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 40,561 votes, defeating incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 27,377 votes.

This victory comes after Dumelo’s narrow loss to Alhassan in the 2020 elections. At 40 years old, Dumelo expressed heartfelt thanks to his supporters and vowed to fulfill his campaign promises. He emphasized that Ghana’s voters have sent a clear message: performance and humility matter, and those who fail to deliver will be voted out.

Dumelo also committed to working hard over the next four years to foster positive change and guide the country toward progress. Known for his acting career since 1991, Dumelo has starred in a variety of Ghollywood and Nollywood films, including Baby Thief, Away Bus, The Game, Black Men Rock, One Night in Vegas, The King is Mine, and Four Play.
