Residents of Kankara Local Government Area in Katsina State, affected by banditry, staged a protest on Saturday, urging the government to intensify efforts to protect their lives and property. The peaceful protest highlighted the recurrent bandit activities in the area.

Protesters blocked the busy Marabar-Kankara to Katsina and Kano State road, as well as the road linking Malumfashi to Funtua and Kaduna State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a resident named Muhammad Sabiu expressed the community’s plea for swift government action, lamenting the dire situation.

“The most affected areas include Malumfashi West, Burdugau, Unguwar-danguna, Yar-teba, Dangume, up to Yargoje,” Sabiu said.

He further explained that there are corpses in the bush from recent killings by bandits, and residents are unable to evacuate them. “The killings happened three days ago. This is a daily occurrence in our communities. We urge the government to intensify measures to address the problem. The bandits have even prevented some of us from farming, making life extremely difficult,” he added.
