The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a clarification regarding a statement attributed to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate. Kwankwaso was previously quoted as saying he would win the 2027 election, along with comments about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being “dead” after his departure.

However, Atiku’s Special Adviser, Abdul Rasheeth, clarified that Kwankwaso had been misquoted. Rasheeth explained that in the interview conducted in Hausa, Kwankwaso did not make any claim about winning the 2027 election but rather expressed his intention to help end the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2027. Rasheeth added that Kwankwaso is a key figure in the political scene and would likely be involved in efforts to remove APC from power.

This clarification followed reactions from the PDP leadership, including National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, who referred to Kwankwaso as a “failed and inconsequential politician” after his earlier remarks about the PDP. Rasheed called for unity between Kwankwaso and Atiku supporters to ensure APC’s defeat in the upcoming elections.
