The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a fire broke out early Friday morning at a seven-story building on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area. The incident occurred at approximately 5:17 am, prompting an immediate response from firefighters.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that after receiving the distress call shortly after the fire began, firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were quickly dispatched to the scene.
“On August 16th, 2024, at 05:17 hours, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call about a fire outbreak at Sanni Adewale Street, Lagos Island LGA, affecting multiple shops in a 7-story building,” the statement read. “Firefighters arrived at the scene by 05:33 hours and promptly brought the situation under control.”
Ventilation efforts are ongoing to ensure safety in the area, and preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical surge triggered the fire. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
