The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled an unlicensed cosmetic manufacturing facility in Ipaye, Iba, Lagos.
After weeks of surveillance, NAFDAC officials conducted a successful operation, leading to the arrest of key personnel and the confiscation of a large quantity of unregistered cosmetic products. These included items such as body washes, skin-lightening creams, soaps, children’s skincare products, and various packaging materials. To prevent further production and distribution of these potentially dangerous items, the facility was sealed off, and one suspect is currently under investigation.
This enforcement action highlights NAFDAC’s steadfast dedication to ensuring public safety by cracking down on the production and sale of unregulated and harmful products across Nigeria.
Similarly, The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)c onducted a two-day operation at Eziukwu Market in Aba, Abia State, resulting in the closure of 150 shops stocked with counterfeit and expired goods.
The seized items, worth an estimated ₦5 billion, included beverages, carbonated drinks, alcoholic drinks, vegetable oils, and revalidated food products such as noodles, powdered milk, and yogurt.
Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s South-East Zonal Director, voiced serious concern over the persistent circulation of fake and substandard products, despite a December 2023 agreement by market leaders to address this issue.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC’s Director-General, reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal production and distribution. She reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers and emphasized ongoing efforts to eliminate counterfeit goods from Nigerian markets permanently.
