The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit pharmaceuticals valued at over N300 million during a raid at Tyre Village, within the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.
The operation, led by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement team, uncovered fake drugs such as Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampiclox 500mg capsules, and falsified packaging materials for Augmentin 625mg capsules.
The premises have been sealed, and all illicit products have been removed from the site. According to a statement from NAFDAC, these counterfeit medications pose significant health risks, including ineffective treatment, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to their unverified composition.
A suspect linked to the operation has been invited for questioning, while further investigations are ongoing. NAFDAC has called on the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious drug-related activities to the nearest agency office to help curb the spread of fake medicines.
