“Netflix Renews Aníkúlápó: Kunle Afolayan’s Series to Explore the Slave Trade in Upcoming Season”

Officially, “Aníkúlápó,” a series starring Kunle Afolayan, has been given a second season renewal by Netflix. The epic fantasy movie from 2022, which was turned into the drama series “Aníkúlápó: The Rise of the Spectre,” enthralled viewers all over the world and even reached the top spot on the Netflix Global Top 10 list.

In Ibadan, Nigeria, and Ghana, production for the upcoming season has already commenced, with series leads Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, and Lateef Adedimeji reprising their roles. Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa, Adebowale Adebayo, and Saidi Balogun are among the new cast members.

“We are ecstatic that Netflix has decided to renew Aníkúlápó for an additional season,” Afolayan expressed. “We are proud to present our stories in an authentic manner, and this series is a potent representation of Nigerian history and culture.”


Afolayan also disclosed that the upcoming series, which will star a diverse cast of actors from Portugal, Ghana, and Nigeria, will explore the complex realities of the slave trade.

“Filming in Oyo State and Ghana helped us ground the story in places rich with our heritage. We’re excited to continue sharing this journey with the world and celebrating the depth of our culture,” he concluded.
