Prof. Moji Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, has highlighted the agency’s critical shortage of personnel, emphasizing that with only 2,000 staff, it falls far short of the 12,000 needed to effectively manage its extensive regulatory responsibilities in a country of over 230 million people. During a meeting with Maj-Gen. Adamu Laka of the NCTC, she stressed the importance of NAFDAC’s role in safeguarding public health and countering terrorism-related threats through rigorous control of food, drugs, chemicals, and other substances. Despite having a high level of expertise and well-equipped laboratories, the agency’s current staffing levels significantly hinder its ability to fulfill its mandate.
