The Nigeria Police Force has expressed strong disapproval of the unauthorized use of its official uniforms and accessories by an online personality, Mr. Martins Otse, also known as “VeryDarkMan,” in a video shared on his social media platforms.
In the widely circulated video where he was observed wearing a police uniform, VDM presented himself as CSP VeryDarkMan and Nigeria’s foremost online police officer. He asserted his commitment to purifying the social media landscape by utilizing his platform to confront oppressors, particularly online vendors.
He further stated that unlike the regular police who follow a comprehensive set of procedures and protocols, he will directly expose the identities of offenders presented to him with substantial evidence.
The Force, in a statement it released on Saturday, respectfully announced that it has initiated an investigation into the circulating video.
The Force firmly distances itself from this unauthorized representation and has initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the origin of the Police equipment utilized, as well as the authorization under which the individual acted.
It is crucial to inform the public that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements is considered a criminal offense, as outlined in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law. Strict penalties may be imposed for such actions.
The police would like to express their appreciation and support for the creativity of young Nigerians in the content creation field. However, they kindly caution against the inappropriate use of police uniforms or symbols.
