Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have summoned the party’s acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and others for a crucial meeting today (Tuesday).
The meeting precedes the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) session set for Thursday.
During the meeting, the Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led reconciliation committee is expected to present its findings and possible recommendations to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the PDP National Assembly caucus in Abuja, Oyinlola outlined his role at the meeting. He stated, “As members of the National Reconciliation Committee, we are meeting with the National Assembly to gather their experiences and understand the reasons behind the party’s declining fortunes.
“We’ve had productive discussions and gathered valuable suggestions that will help unify and strengthen our party. This evening’s discussions were focused on that. One clear takeaway is that unity is essential for any party to succeed in political contests, and that’s what we are working towards.”
The former Osun State governor also emphasized that the party is refining its strategies ahead of the upcoming Ondo State governorship election and working to reconcile aggrieved members to present a united front.
Meanwhile, there are fresh indications that former Senate President David Mark, former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, and the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, have emerged as frontrunners to replace the embattled acting National Chairman.
