In a contentious move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced its own results from the recent Edo State governorship election, challenging the authority of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare official results. During a press conference, PDP governors, including Adamawa’s Ahmadu Fintiri, presented figures they claimed were sourced from polling units and local governments.
Fintiri emphasized that he was not overstepping INEC’s authority, stating, “I only informed the public on the exact figures from our collation agent before INEC disrupted the process.” He further argued that INEC, not the PDP, was violating the Electoral Act. The announcement raises questions about electoral integrity and the boundaries of party communications during elections.
