As we all know this December time is a time to get detty as the term detty December is used. It is not new that the Nigerians living in other countries come back to Nigeria to have fun. We all also know that Lagos is the main venue.
It is therefore a relief to see and hear that Governor Sanwo Olu took all of this into consideration and cared about the security of the State residents and its guest. The Governor directed LASTMA( Lagos State Traffic Management Authority) to improve on its overnight monitoring in specific areas.
LASTMA whose primary objective is to mange traffic in Lagos Statae has been implored to enhance their monitoring during Yuletide season.
A statement was issued by the Public affairs and enlightenment department’s Dirctor, Mr Taofiq Adebayo. Mr Adebayo quoted the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation saying this initiative was to make sure there is a easy glow of traffic even after before or during the festive season.
He spoke about areas like Ikoyi, Ajah, Lekki, and Victoria Island.
Mr Adebayo said, ” These tools include heavy duty and mini towing vehicles to key location across the state.
These officers will engage in round-the-clock monitoring and execute real time traffic interventions, particularly in historically congested areas such is Ikoyi, Obalende, Victoria Island and Lekki-Ajah axis” He said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa spoke on this on Sunday and told the General Manager of LASTMA to ensure immediate implementation.
“Our personnel are fully equipped and strategically positioned to promptly address any traffic challenges that may arise. This initiative aligns with the Governor’s vision of a Lagos where mobility remains unhindered throughout the festive period,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to established regulations to facilitate smooth operations, reiterating LASTMA’s commitment to maintaining order and providing timely assistance on Lagos roads.
“This proactive intervention by the Lagos State Government reaffirms its unwavering resolve to enhance traffic management and ensure a stress-free Yuletide season for all.”
He also urged the General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki to mobilise more than 2500 officers. He said the officers were deployed and given tools to effectively manage traffic.
This is definitely a good news ears to the ears of every Lagosian. It seem to be a soothing balm to their heart because it reassures them that the Governor cares about our safety.
