The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended approximately 130 individuals involved in significant cybercriminal activities.
Among the suspects are 113 foreign nationals, including 87 male and 26 female individuals from China and Malaysia.
Security Operatives To Charge 113 Foreign Nationals Nabbed For Fraud
On Sunday, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement indicating that 17 of the apprehended individuals are Nigerian nationals.
He mentioned that the suspects were apprehended at a building located in the Next Cash and Carry area of the Jahi district within the Federal Capital Territory.
Adejobi mentioned that the suspects were allegedly utilizing computers and other advanced devices to aid in criminal activities.
Adejobi stated that the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals (87 males and 26 females), predominantly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, along with their 17 Nigerian associates (4 males and 13 females), due to their suspected involvement in sophisticated cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that pose a threat to national security.
“On Saturday, November 3, 2024, Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh, led an operation involving officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).”
Adejobi stated that the police were analyzing the evidence collected from the suspects.
He stated that we are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and employing scientific analysis on the recovered exhibits.
The accused individuals will be formally charged in a court of law once our thorough investigations have been completed.
“We will provide timely updates to the public regarding the results of our ongoing investigations.”
