Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has expressed his disapproval of certain online criticisms directed at the unsuccessful transfer of his fellow Nigerian player, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen, a 25-year-old professional footballer, was involved in a intricate transfer negotiation that ultimately resulted in the unsuccessful completion of his proposed moves to both Al-Hilal FC of the Saudi Pro League and Chelsea FC of the English Premier League.

The out-of-favour striker was expected to leave Napoli this summer but a deal could not be reached before the close of the transfer window.

He has since been removed from their Serie A squad list for the 2024-25 season after he failed to agree on a move to either Chelsea or Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia on deadline day.

Reacting to the development, Ighalo slammed the criticisms surrounding the issue.

According to him, Osimhen was in pain when they spoke.

He wrote: β€œNo human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his own country makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened.

“I had a conversation with him, and I could sense the anguish in his voice. The manner in which he has been treated is unfortunate. This young man plays with passion and dedication for his country. It is regrettable, but I am confident that he will return stronger. After all, we learn from our experiences each day.”
