Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, is mourning the death of his younger sister, Atsi Kefas, who passed away in Abuja following injuries sustained during an attack on her vehicle.
According to a family source, the incident occurred along the Wukari-Kente road in Taraba State when gunmen targeted her vehicle. A police escort, reportedly responding to the attack, accidentally discharged a firearm, inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to her abdomen.
“It’s heartbreaking to lose her. We are deeply devastated by this tragic event,” the family source said.
Atsi Kefas, known for her humility and kindness, was deeply loved by many. Tributes have poured in on social media, with friends and well-wishers expressing their grief and extending condolences to the governor and his family.
Kelvin Kuffi, a long-time friend, shared in a WhatsApp group, Agbu Kefas Progress Info: “Atsi and I have been friends for over two decades, dating back to our diploma days at Taraba State Polytechnic, Wukari. She was selfless, humble, and a source of joy.”
Another mourner, Murtala Atumba, wrote, “This is truly sad. My heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, the Governor, and the entire family. May the Lord provide comfort during this painful time.”
Others, including Joseph Agbu and Sintali, also shared messages of support, with Agbu stating, “May the Lord console Dr. Agbu Kefas and the entire family over this irreparable loss.”
The tragic news has left the state in shock, with many calling for prayers for the governor and his family.
Described as a compassionate and gentle individual, Atsi Kefas’ death is considered a significant loss not only to her family but also to the people of Taraba State.
When approached for comments, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communication, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, declined to speak on the matter, stating, “The family is best positioned to address the passing of the governor’s sister.”
As of now, neither the state government nor the family has released an official statement regarding her death or burial arrangements.
