Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, that its agents had seized in Yola, Adamawa State, has been put up for auction by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
This was revealed by NCS Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi at a press conference in the state of Northeastern Nigeria.The Comptroller General declared that the seized goods would be put up for immediate auction at two gas stations in Yola, with a price per litre of ₦630, through the representation of Olaniyi Olajugun, the NCS Deputy Controller General.

According to him, the seizures highlight how ongoing the problem is and how important it is to keep being vigilant and proactive.As per Adeniyi, the NCS Operation Whirlwind successfully combatted fuel smuggling by seizing two lorries, 1,046 kegs containing PMS, and 12 drums containing petroleum products.
Significant seizures have been made as a result of our ongoing operations in a number of areas, including the southern borders in the states of Cross River and Akwa Ibom, the north-west borders in the Sokoto-Kebbi axis, and the south-west borders around the Seme-Badagry and Idiroko axis,” he stated.
I am happy to report that we have successfully intercepted 12 petroleum product drums, 1,046 kegs of PMS, and two trucks transporting illicit petroleum products during this most recent round of Operation Whirlwind. In relation to these smuggling operations, one suspect has also been captured.
The head of customs issued a warning to anyone involved in illegal activity, stating, “Anyone caught smuggling our nation’s resources will face the full force of the law.”
In addition, he called on all Nigerians to assist the operation, especially those who lived in Adamawa and other border states.”Your attentiveness and collaboration are essential to our joint endeavours to protect our country’s assets and guarantee that the advantages of fuel price deregulation are completely realised by every Nigerian,” he continued.
