Controversial rapper Speed Darlington has been released on bail after nearly a month in police custody, his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, confirmed on Monday.
Darlington was arrested in late November while performing in Owerri, Imo State, following an alleged incident involving Afrofusion star Burna Boy. The rapper had publicly criticized Burna Boy’s association with American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing serious criminal charges.
This arrest followed an earlier incident where Darlington was detained, with his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, attributing the arrest directly to Burna Boy.
Despite the initial arrest, Darlington vowed not to retract his criticism of Burna Boy’s connection to Diddy.
Following the bail granting, Adeyanju stated that Darlington would be arraigned in court within 48 hours or released. He emphasized that while the pursuit of justice may be a lengthy process, it ultimately prevails.
