According to the investigation, 61 injured people have been released from the hospital, while 38 are still undergoing treatment.According to the Jigawa State Tanker Explosion Investigation Panel, the tragic fuel tanker explosion that happened on October 14 in Majiya town, Jigawa State, claimed 209 lives and injured 99 more.

On Wednesday in Dutse, the panel, led by Hafizu Inuwa, presented its conclusions to Governor Umar Namadi.According to the investigation, 61 injured people have been released from the hospital, while 38 are still undergoing treatment. In addition to destroying properties valued at millions of Naira, the disaster also impacted 167 families.

“It was also found that properties valued at millions of Naira were destroyed as a result of the fire,” Inuwa said during the presentation.According to the report, a number of factors contributed to the explosion, including potholes and damaged speed breakers close to the scene of the collision, as well as careless driving behaviours like night driving and excessive speeding.Inuwa clarified, “As victims were scooping the spilt fuel, the fire may have been started by a combination of factors, including but not limited to the friction of metallic containers with a hard surface or other containers.

“Safety Suggestions

Along with routine road inspections, the committee suggested tighter safety regulations for articulated vehicles and petroleum transporters.In addition, it suggested modernising emergency response centres, setting up trauma and burns units in medical facilities, and establishing a road traffic control organisation to oversee and implement traffic safety regulations.”The government should offer social protection to victims and their relatives who appear to be elderly and vulnerable, and enrol the most vulnerable victims and their relatives in the Danmodi Care Program,” Inuwa continued.

Response of the Government , In order to prevent such tragedies, Governor Namadi commended the panel for its diligent work and reiterated his administration’s determination to implement the recommendations.”It is our duty to the victims and the people of Jigawa State to stop such tragedies from happening again. Governor Namadi pledged that his administration would prioritise the well-being of the affected families and enforce stricter safety standards on our roads.

Along with praising the Majiya community’s tenacity, the governor reiterated his government’s commitment to their assistance and rehabilitation.This explosion, one of the deadliest in recent memory, has brought attention to the need for better road safety and emergency response systems in Jigawa State and beyond.
