Data showed that all 22 generation companies (GenCos) are down as of the time of this report. The grid had collapsed twice this week, marking the eighth grid disturbance in 2024
TCN Reacts To Blackout, Restoring Power With “Temporary Grid Disturbance”
The reaction comes after the grid broke down for the third time this week. The grid collapse occurred early Saturday morning, with many states reporting total blackouts.Data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) showed that, as of 8:16 a.m. today, the grid recorded an unprecedented zero Megawatts (MW).
As of the time of this report, data indicated that all 22 generation companies (GenCos) were unavailable. This week, there have been two grid collapses, making it the eighth grid disturbance of 2024.
Reacting to the collapse, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah said although the bus section of a current transformer had exploded at 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation, power has been restored.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby declares that at approximately 8:15 am today, October 19, 2024, there was a brief disruption to the national grid.”The NCC report states that a current transformer’s bus section exploded at the 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation. As was to be expected, the protection system was triggered, opening the busbars to quickly contain the explosion and stop additional damage to nearby equipment and fire. However, this action caused a brief disruption on the grid.”Our Jebba engineers have isolated the problematic current transformer by successfully completing switchings. In line with this, they have rearranged the busbar configuration and restored power to the station and other grid segments, according to the statement.
