Two things are clearer to me as day. One,social media is not same as real life. Another fact is that life is not as happy as it seems. The viral video of Baddest Orobo perfectly encapsulates this beliefs I have.
Looking through her videos, you would see a funny and carefree woman. She creates contents that promotes music. I remember her favourite line, “Music is my therapy” as she sings and dances to music that interest her.
It was however a contrast to her personality when she posted her video hinting that she was depressed. Of course, it piqued the interests of her followers and passerby alike.
Thousands of people rushed to her YouTube page to hear her story. I was also one of them curious to know and understand how how the bubbly lady I have seen suffered depression.
In the video she explained that the purpose for the video was to help other people learn few life lessons.
Baddest Orobo Baddie went on to explain her story. While coming back from her vacation in 2022, she was arrested at the airport. She had to spend 10 days in jail and was charged of flight risk when she was out. She also explained that she couldn’t go into details.
What she was originally charged for was conspiracy for fraud. She stated that this was all due to the fact that she was in a wrong relationship and made a wrong decision. She couldn’t go into details because the guy who actually committed the crime has not been arrested.
She was tried and had to stay at home and only go to work because she was on house arrest. She was freed from the house arrest on the condition to remain on ankle monitor. She was given rules to abide by and told not to live the Northern region were she lived. Her house was searched and her passport withheld.
All the restrictions was alot to handle. She soon became depressed and saddened by all the rules. She choose to start attending school as a diversion therapy. The course was supposed to take 8 months but due to the situation at hand she had to complete it a year and the half. She had to wear baggy trousers to hide the ankle monitor. She also started learning to become a disc jockey. She could not focus properly as a result of her experiences.Social media played a crucial role in helping her mental health.
She gave advices to those ready to listen. One was the need to love yourself. Another advice was not to give up but learn from our mistakes. She stated that it is important to follow our instinct. Her video sparked different reactions.
