NNPC Limited hired the East Winds Aviation-operated helicopter, registered as 5NBQG, to transport a few contract employees to the NNPCL facility FPSO—NUIMS ANTAN.The crash was confirmed to have killed three people.The accident happened at 11:22 a.m. along Port Harcourt’s waterways when East Wind Aviation’s Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, registered 5NBQG, took off from Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) to the FPSO-NUIMS Antan oil rig.According to Odutayo Oluseyi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, there were eight confirmed passengers on board.
Authorities said in a statement that rescue efforts have been launched after the plane ditched into the Atlantic Ocean waters close to Bonny Finima.
However, President Tinubu urged military officers participating in various operations in the area to join the rescue effort and offer all necessary assistance to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other pertinent agencies in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy).
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited’s board and employees, as well as the families of everyone who was confirmed dead in the accident, received condolences from the president.His sincere prayer is that the Almighty God will comfort the families of the three deceased souls and grant them eternal rest.
