Nigeria’s performance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was impressive as they defeated New Zealand 1-4 on Wednesday.

The merciless Flamingos scored three goals in the first half to blow out the opposition and advance to the Dominican Republic’s next round of competition.The first goal of the Group A match was scored by Shakira Moshood in the first two minutes. The 30th minute saw the Flamingos take a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Taiwo Adegoke and Fairdat Abdulwahab, capping a masterful attacking move by the Nigerians.

With a goal from Taiwo Afolabi, the Flamingos extended their lead to 4-0 on the second half’s restart.But the Kiwis, who did not really pose a threat to the Nigerian goal, quickly equalised to make the score 4-1.

Although Coach Bankole Olowookere’s girls had multiple opportunities to raise the score, some subpar finishing kept them from doing so.Nigeria’s focus will switch after the victory to their upcoming matches against Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, respectively.

On Saturday, October 19, they will play Ecuador, and on Tuesday, October 22, they will play the hosts.The Flamingos’ best result in the competition came in the previous iteration, where they finished third.
